The Société des Cincinnati de France is one of the fourteen constituent societies that together form the Society of the Cincinnati, the oldest private patriotic organization of the United States.

 

Like the other constituent societes, the Société des Cincinnati de France is perpetuating the memory of the American Revolution and of the French army and navy officers who served in the American Revolutionary War.

This painting depicts the British Major General Charles Cornwallis surrendering to French and American forces after the Siege of Yorktown during the American Revolutionary War. This oil painting was commissioned by American artist John Trumbull in 1817. It is now located in the United States Capitol rotunda in Washington D.C
